We found out today that my grandfather has lung cancer. It's in the very early stages, so we're hopeful that it won't be fatal, but we won't know for sure until after the PET scan, which is yet to be scheduled. The doctor said it's a relatively slow-growing type of cancer, and thus far it seems to be restricted to one place on his left lung, but we'll find out more after further tests. Surgery is almost guaranteed, though probably not within the next month, because stress is fun, right? Right. Those of you who read regularly may already know that I live with my mother and my grandparents, which is great because I get to see them all the time, but being so close does mean that these sorts of things hit close to home (I know, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist). I'll remain hopeful until we get more information; I'm not great at dealing with death, so I'm crossing my fingers that Papa will be around for a nice long while, even if he is 83 years old.
But anyways. Here's some eyeliner, and another post on the way to completing this unending series.
What does your eyeliner collection look like?
Lots of pencils, since with my tremor and general lack of sight without glasses means liquid can be a challenge to get even. That hasn't stopped me from picking up a few cheap liquid liners, but they don't see as much play as my pencils.
The Pencils
Left to right (ignore the weird smudges on the Revlon and NYC purple ones; they're due to my swatching at an angle):
NYC Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil 935 Moody Blue
p2 Perfect Look Kajal 090 Turquoise (like, 5 layers?)
Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal 007 Turquoise (1 swipe)
NYC Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil 937 Teal (1 swipe)
NYX Slide On Eyeliner 06 Esmeralda
Prestige Total Intensity 05 Intense Olive
NYC Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil 932 Dark Brown
Revlon Colorstay Black (3 swipes)
Prestige Total Intensity 06 Powerful Purple
NYC Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil 934 Smokey Purple
The p2 is super sheer and really firm, so I wouldn't recommend it should you happen across it in Europe and, like me, think the color pretty. The NYC liners are nice, though they do tend towards being overly soft so I tend to store them in the fridge. The turquoise one is gorgeous, but an absolute nightmare to remove, so I don't wear it as often as I'd like, and the purple one is a bit sheer, but they're a solid drugstore option (and a mere $2.40 when they're 40% off!). I love the Prestige ones, though they're generally very dark––that's not a bad thing, it's just not the line to go to if you're wanting brighter pops of color. I recently purchased the Rimmel one, and it's beautiful, pigmented and smooth and just great. I want more from the line! The NYX one is great for Duck days, but it can takes some building up to be opaque, even though it swatches really nicely. And lastly, the Revlon black is just...meh. Pretty firm, not super pigmented, and it's not as black as I want a black liner to be. I should just buy the black Prestige or NYC one and throw the Revlon out, but I'm lazy.
The Liquids
Wet N Wild Mega Liner 862A Indigo Blue
Wet N Wild Mega Liner 861 Black
Wet N Wild Mega Liner 863 Turquoise
NYX Glam Liner Aqua Luxe 07 Glam Nude
NYX Liquid Crystal Liner 105 Crystal Gun Metal
NYX Liquid Crystal Liner 106 Crystal Hip
NYX Liquid Crystal Liner 106 Crystal Hip on top of Revlon Colorstay Black
The WNW liquid liners are all really nice and pigmented, though the green one stains like a devil. I haven't yet gotten the hang of liquid liner, and I'm not crazy about the brush, but I don't know how much of that is actually its fault and how much is my own incompetence. The NYX Glam Liner is super super pretty; I like wearing it on my lower lashline to brighten, or on my upper lashline as an unconventional bit of shine. The Liquid Crystal liners, on the other hand, are terrible. I mean, the glitter's super pretty and nicely opaque, but they sting like a mother. They seem to know this is a problem, as the lid carries this warning:
You'd be forgiven for thinking you could use it on your eyes, though, given that it's called a fucking eyeliner.
PAH. Don't waste your time with it, if only because advertising something as an eyeliner (and including it under the "eyes > liquid liner" section of your website) and then saying it's not safe for eyes is a super sneaky, underhanded way to avoid lawsuits. Super uncool, NYX.
Anyways. You probably notice that every single liner here is drugstore; I like drugstore pencil formulas, though there are a few colors I'd like to pick up from Sephora's house line, and I've not yet felt inspired to spend $20+ on a decent glitter liquid eyeliner. Someday, perhaps.
What are you favorite eyeliners? What format do you prefer?

Admittedly, the "eyeliner" nomenclature is restricted to the French part, but guess what, NYX––it's the same thing in both languages. |
